If you are thinking about going into direct sales, the first thing you need to decide is what to sell.  That decision should be based around what you know, the products you like and can feel comfortable endorsing, and the types of people you like to be around.

That being said, if you are a parent or grandparent, kids items may be for you!  Pet lover?  There are home-based businesses out there for you, too!

I always get hit up to go to these parties by parents at preschool. When I was a teacher, I always went and always bought things because they were different and educational. As a parent I like to buy things for gifts for my children and for their friends.

These parties can be a lot of fun, because usually there is a lot of playing! I remember a game we played at one of these at-home parties where we raced on putting a puzzle together. It was a lot of fun because I think I was the only sober mother there and of course, I won! (I also bought less than the others!)

Being that I'm not a pet owner, I've never been to one of the pet parties, but I can imagine they would be a lot of fun for animal lovers! It is always nice to get new ideas, whether for your dog or your pet ferret!

Here are some companies to get you started on your search!

Baby/Childcare

Celadon Road - Celadon Road has a basic enrollment kit that is just $79 and includes $160 in product. They also have a standard kit which is $150 and includes $325 in free product. These guys were nice enough to email me this information after seeing their name pop up in one of my hubs!

Initials, Inc. – Startup $139, make 25-36% + bonuses

Michele Barata at Home – Startup $199 (free after qualifying purchase and rebate), make 25-35%

Usborne Books and More – Startup $65-150, make 25% + bonuses, downline 4%

Conklin

Only Green - Startup $199 - I have received their catalog.  They offer many different types of products and services.  They sell degradable bags, produce totes, all sorts of cleaners for the home.  They also sell cosmetics, cutting boards, books on green resources, and food and beverage products.  They seem to be a very neat company with a true passion for making the planet a greener place.  Their consultants, or "EcoAdviosors", are trained not only to represent their products and services, but to also educate others about being green.  Their starter kit contains training materials, sales tools, and $300 worth of their products, including a sampling of their cosmetics, skincare, petcare, homecare, and coffee.

Shure Pets – Startup $149

I totally agree, sell what you enjoy and are passionate about. People will pick up on your sincerity and plus it is always that much more rewarding knowing that you sold something that you truly believe is going to benefit the buyer.

I always wanted to be an Usborne books distributor. They are great products and you can do fundraising sales through them too, I think.

Thanks for the comments!

Rob, this is part of my problem. I fall in love with different products all the time and want to share them, thus I have such a difficult time choosing what to sell!

wannab, look into the barefoot books! I need to get it on my list - I don't know how I missed it. Startup is FREE to sell it, and you can make some $$. YOU could make double $$ because you could do book review hubs on them all!
