Who doesn't like to eat? These food parties are a lot of fun, and everyone gets to eat! And usually the foods are pretty tasty, too, because if they weren't, no one would buy them!
When I sold Tastefully Simple, the parties would pretty much go as follows:
Someone would agree to hold a party. I would get them a food kit which would be enough samples in there for them to make a loaf of bread, three or four dips and spreads, and a cake. The day of the party, I would bring the things that are already prepared like bottled sauces and a drink. We would talk about all the different foods and pass around little samples of all the goodies for everyone to try.
These parties were a lot of fun and everyone always ended up buying something. I liked to provide a "cash and carry" basket, where I would buy a bit of inventory and carry it to the parties. That way if someone really wanted to buy something to support their friend, but didn't want to spend the shipping and handling on a $4 item, they could just buy it outright from me.
Another thing that is nice is that the samples are dirt cheap, so if there is a potluck or another event, you can buy the sample, prepare it, and when everyone asks for your recipe... you get the picture! It sells itself!
