If you are interested in starting a career or even just making a little extra money in direct sales, house and kitchen wares could be your best bet.

The way our economy is right now, people are entertaining more and more at home, and they want their homes and kitchens to be comfortable and functional.  

Some of the companies that carry these products offer very low startup costs and very good training.   You can join Celadon Road, which carries many different types of items for less than $100.  Kitchen Fair, Longaberger, and Pampered Chef all offer a lower-end kit as well, allowing you to start your company on the cheap and make up that initial investment in a hurry.  Signature Homestyles' kit ends up costing a little over $100 (after s&h and tax), but looks like a pretty comprehensive kit.

If you are looking more to make an internet income, you can get started with Home Tec for $20 and then just pay the maintenance fee each month.

Organizations like Carico and Cutco are geared mostly towards college students, and are worth contacting for their extensive training.
